"There is no more — a higher calling — than raising children who are kind, who live with grace and who are going to be generous human beings in the world. There isn’t anything greater than that."

Brooklyn and Broadway

Bright and early, we started our day with a lovely and delicious
breakfast at Sarabeth's. I love visiting one-of-a-kind places like this.
I am always telling J to find some here in LA because these little
cafes always make me feel like we are on vacation and exploring our world.

The preserves at this place were truly remarkable...
We even bought a jar of them to take home with us, they were that good.

After breakfast, I was really excited to head down to Brooklyn and
go to the Brooklyn Flea Market. I've always wanted to go and find
old New York treasures there to bring home and display in my house.
It's been on my NY bucket list for quite a while now... I can finally
cross it off. It was pretty cool. I wanted a few things that I couldn't have
because they were too large to bring back. You can't exactly fit a
desk and a dresser in your carry-on, can you?

I found a lovely ring that I bought. I wear it every day and
every single time I look down at my hand and see it there, I remember
the lovely, rainy afternoon I spent with Jaclyne and my 2 baby girls
on a lazy Sunday in Brooklyn. I remember the way it smelled
because the rain had just started falling and it smelled like rain.
I love mementos like this.
They are such a nice way to remember important times.

We walked through Williamsburg a bit after the flea market.
Not because we had a great urge to explore this place in a serious,
relentless downpour, but because we could not find a cab to save our lives.

We did find beauty though, it's hard not to in a place like this.

The girls stayed all cozy in their strollers while we tried our best to stay dry.

We eventually found a car to drive us the rest of the way to the Brooklyn Bridge.
I never tire of this sight. Ever.

Walking along the bridge, by myself because J can't take a leisurely stroll if she tried,
I thought about how lucky I was to be there. In that moment, with Ella singing
a little song and the Statue of Liberty just on the horizon. It was perfect.

On the other side of the bridge, we took a moment to regroup
in a warm Starbucks before walking down to see the new Freedom Tower
being built. They've made a lot of progress since we last came in April.

We then took a cab to have a slice of pizza at Grimaldi's...
I would say we had cannoli's too but while I was on the phone
with Pou, my gracious traveling companion ate it all and didn't save me any.
I don't know if i was just overtired or delirious but that made me laugh
one of those belly laughs that makes your core hurt. Those laughs are much needed in life.

We then stopped by City Bakery, who hands down, have the
best chocolate chip cookie in the city. Second best was Levain.
Or maybe they were both tied for first place. Whatever, they were good!

We made the trek from Union Square all the way down to Midtown where our hotel was.
On the way, we passed the Empire State building, the Flatiron, and the Chrysler Building.

Our taxi ride to the theater. We were running late... as usual.

We ended the night with a post-show run through the rain all the way down
Broadway to Ruby Foo's. Miserable isn't even the right word to describe
the numbness in your arms as you run in quarter-sized raindrops in a HUGE
crowd of sightseers and you gave up your jacket 3 blocks ago cause the
little daughter you are carrying was getting too wet. In heels.

It wasn't even that great of a meal this time around... but the fortune cookie made up for it.

Back at the hotel, I snuck up on this sight... warmed me right up.

What a great day!
