Sometimes I wish I lived on the east coast.
The states are smaller so it seems like visiting surrounding states
would be that much easier for weekend or day trips. Here in California,
it's a 4 hour drive to Vegas, 12 hours to New Mexico, 7 hours to Arizona...
anything beyond that is not a weekend or day trip worth taking...

It just seems so far to me. We had to drive 18 hours in order to get from
LA to Seattle! THAT was far. Sigh... the grass is always greener, I suppose.
I often dream of living out my life with my family in New York.
When we want to get away and don't have much time, we seek
old favorites and find comfort in them. This time, we relished in seeing the
sun shine on the bay... good ol' San Francisco. No matter how many times I
come back here, the feeling in the pit of my stomach that I'm coming home never changes.
Journey's "Lights" starts playing in my head and you couldn't wipe the smile off my face if you tried.

"San Francisco is perhaps the most
European of all American cities."
European of all American cities."

(maybe that's why I love it so much)
(maybe that's why I love it so much)
"San Francisco itself is art, above all literary art. Every block is a short story, every hill a novel. Every home a poem, every dweller within immortal. That is the whole truth."
- William Saroyan
My 3 outside of Wayfare Tavern
Ella wants to pose with everything she sees. But when I
actually want her taking a photo, she won't look... go figure.
My kids don't understand the concept of needing to hold an adults
hand when they cross a street or parking lot. They all 3 fight us on it.
Ella has run off more times than I can count, making me run after her like a crazy person.
Here, she is calling me the meanest mommy ever for making her hold my hand.
I got the sudden urge, a need almost, to desperately want to take a
photo of the bay as the sun sets with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.
It was nearing 7:30 and the walk from the Omni to Embarcadero produced no
good results in the sunset department. I was disappointed, to say the least,
and was just going to say never mind.
Here is where Jaclyne steps up. Something along the lines of,
"Go. I got this... I want you to live out every one of your dreams." is said and she
takes the kids to dinner and sends me on my way with cab fare, a fully charged camera,
and a gleam in my eye. That's why she rocks.
I walked/ran down Lombard St. from the Embarcadero ALL
the way down to Pier 39. Not a short distance, let me tell you...
I saw a few piers along the way that I thought might work...
The Bay Bridge
I made it to the end of pier 39, a sweaty mess, just as the sun started dipping behind the hills.
Now is probably where you want to play this song...
I got my shot. It was glorious!!! (The bridge is there, you see it if you look closely.) We ended that night with a hot fudge brownie sundae from Ghirardelli Square The next morning we stood in line for an HOUR outside of Mama's on Washington Square ...
Thank goodness there was a park across the street where I could keep the kids busy during the wait...
Outside of Mama's when we were next in line...
We spent the rest of the day exploring... we found our way to Golden Gate Park
where the kids ran their little hearts out.
They especially enjoyed the concrete slide...
Ella and Kate didn't want to leave right away.
Kate actually said, "Can we sit on the grass and relax for a few minutes?" So we did.
I made Kate a head wreath of little white flowers.
I love this photo. It feels so San Francisco to me...
We had dinner at the Wharf and after a bit of souvenir
shopping, we got settled in to watch the Lorax.
Gotta love a hotel with room service and Pay Per View.
Breakfast in bed before we headed out to Monterey and Cambria for the rest of our trip...
They love breakfast at the Omni. I don't blame them. It's pretty amazing.
I always hate saying goodbye to SF...
