"There is no more — a higher calling — than raising children who are kind, who live with grace and who are going to be generous human beings in the world. There isn’t anything greater than that."

My Cup Runneth Over

"The optimist sees the rose
and not its thorns;
the pessimist stares at the
thorns, oblivious of the rose."
Kahlil Gibran

I've been a big fan of quotes for a while now.
There's much comfort to be found in the story and life experience of others.
Learning, borrowing courage from and finding beauty in it seems like a great place
to start when you are tyring to find your own footing in this life.

"We can only be said to be alive
in those moments when our hearts
are conscious of our treasures."
Thornton Wilder

Today was all roses and rainbows, baby.
Not only was I conscious of my treasures, they kept
shining their beauty and goodness, almost blinding me.
How could I not take them in, one by one and savor them.

We made our way down to the Huntington Library in San Marino, CA.
I'd been there a couple of times before as a teenager but never had I been
aware enough to know the beauty that was surrounding me.
Never had I seen it through my daughters' eyes.

Their wonder never ceases to amaze me.

The roses were dew-kissed and in full bloom.
The delphinium, taller than my daughters, some were even taller than me!
And the lily pond??? I'd go back just to sit and watch those every day.
GORGEOUS!
The "Julia Child" rose was my very favorite.

This one was a bit of a challenge to control.
But only because she wanted to run and see and TOUCH everything!
Muddy feet happened more than once and a few meltdowns occurred but
that's to be expected when going anywhere with young children.

It almost didn't look real.

We got a tea reservation and the girls got to experience a real life tea party.
I mean the whole deal, clotted cream, scones, tea sandwiches, tea in pots...
Today was a beautiful day. I have those more often than not because I choose joy.
Of course every joyful day has moments like these, the trick is to bounce back quickly.
Roses and rainbows...

It's a choice.

Choose joy.
