"There is no more — a higher calling — than raising children who are kind, who live with grace and who are going to be generous human beings in the world. There isn’t anything greater than that."

Wonder

Lots of things interest me.
I find wonder in plenty of things.

I love learning.
I love creating, sewing, baking, photographing.
I love authors.
I love psychology.
I love romance.
I love artists.
I love daydreaming.

But the one thing I've been surprised by the most is the wonder and beauty
that lies in the three little people I am lucky enough to call mine.

Three highly emotional, loving, sweet and amazing little people.
When I am working and they are playing at my feet is when I love to
listen in the most. That's when their wonder comes out best.
That's when I see the things I've taught them, the things they've observed
and the things that interested them show themselves and I can't get enough of it.

Kate is a really shy little girl. She will be completely okay with watching from the
sidelines with a huge smile on her face instead of putting herself in the spotlight.
She's unsure and a little insecure.
I wanted to help her out in that department so when she was in her element,
playing with her sister and her brother, I broached the subject.

I taught her how to introduce herself and smile and ask if whoever she was talking to wanted to be friends.
I could tell it intrigued her because she was introspective. Then came the million questions.
"What would they say? How do I say it?"

Since that last conversation I hadn't heard about it again.
Until today.

While working on some edits, I overheard Kate talking to her dolls.

In a really sweet voice, she said, "Hi, I'm Kate. Do you like to be my friend please?"
and then she shook her doll's hand.

My heart melted.
I let her talk a little bit more to her doll and then I asked her if she remembered when we
had that conversation. She said yes and that she used it with one of her little friends in ballet
class tonight. She smiled her smile and said that the little girl said yes.

I had seen her talking to a new little girl but through the thick glass
I couldn't hear but only see what they were doing.
They stuck by each other the whole class long and it was the cutest thing I've ever seen.

I really love seeing their day to day lives and watching
them incorporate the things I've taught them into it.
It makes it feel all so worth everything that I do.

Like when Charlie prays to help himself feel better.
or when Kate holds the cuff of her long-sleeved shirt before
putting on a jacket so that it won't get all bunched up at the top.
or when they twirl their spaghetti around their fork.
or how Charlie prepares his school stuff the night before so that he will be ready in the morning.
or how they know all the words to the french song I play all the time in my car when
I didn't really think they ever paid attention and all of a sudden
there's a little chorus going on in my backseat as I drive.
I taught them these things. Its so cool (and scary) to have so much influence on these little lives.

This is how I find Ella on most mornings. My neighbors tell me that they look for her little face
every morning as she waves goodbye to them as they leave for work. So sweet!

Ella and her crazy morning hair...
They're wonderful, my babies.
