"There is no more — a higher calling — than raising children who are kind, who live with grace and who are going to be generous human beings in the world. There isn’t anything greater than that."

New Ventures...

"Believe in something big.
Your life is worth a noble motive."
Walter Anderson

Here's a something big for you: I am now a college student.
It feels good to say that. It feels really good.
I like that in 4 or so years, I will have a degree and
I will see the world differently. It feels really nice that
I am able to show my kids that it's never too late
and that education and bettering yourself is important.

I've been saying for years now that I wanted to go to college. But a deadline would
pass and I would just shrug my shoulders and say, "Oh well, next semester." and so on...
I got tired of not holding myself accountable. I got tired of talking for nothing.
I didn't want to be that person. So, I did something about it.

All the stars aligned for this to become a reality. I made all the
grant and application deadlines on time (miracle). I got all the paperwork
signed and mailed in. I made it to the assessment tests and orientations.
I stayed up all night while in Las Vegas, paid $20 in internet fees at a public computer
in order to be able to register for my classes at 6am when the system opened.
I was wait-listed for 2 of my classes but magically got into them.
Even made it through the first week of classes without a hitch.
All with a husband and kids and a very full life.

I rallied my people in my corner. My husband, my best friend Jac, my mom, my sisters, my friends...
my village -- those amazing people who want me to succeed and will
do anything in order for my children to be cared for and loved, all pledged
to help in anyway they could, to support me and encourage me in this venture.
I wouldn't have been able to even make it to that first day of class
had it not been for every single one of them. I am one lucky girl.

My self-portrait on my first day of college...

"I think a photography class should be a requirement
in all educational programs because it
makes you see the world rather than just look at it."
Author Unknown

This semester I'm enrolled in English 1 and Photography...  so far, I'm loving both.
My professors are funny. I like that.

It was better than I thought it would be, being in class.
I felt grown-up in ways I never have before.
I feel not grown-up often and it bothers me because
at 32 and raising 3 small children, I always think I should
act and feel more like an adult.

Right now, I do.

(thanks for the LBCC goodies, Nicole)

That's where I am. Excited about the future but loving the right now.
Bouquets of newly sharpened pencils will always hold new meaning to me.

PS -- I got some of my favorite movies on DVD in the mail today.
(I already had them, but on VHS)
I am excited to find some free moments to sit and enjoy them...
