"There is no more — a higher calling — than raising children who are kind, who live with grace and who are going to be generous human beings in the world. There isn’t anything greater than that."

Autumn Dinner

I busted out the Fall Decor at home.
Aren't you surprised that these weren't up a month ago?
I am.

Having the house look so warm and inviting totally put me in a Martha Stewart mood.
I decided to invite my parents, the twins and J over for a festive Autumn dinner.

Pork roast, carrots, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes
Drooling yet?

You should be. It was that good. The roast was in the oven all day long.

The house smelled heavenly.

(Although, I must say, I picked the most un-Autumn day EVER to
have an Autumn dinner. 115 degrees outside. Need I say more?)

And then there was dessert. Sweet, decadent, perfect dessert...
I dusted off the trusty old Butter Yellow KitchenAid.
It's been too long since it's been used.
I plan to use it often in the upcoming months with all the fun baking I want to do.

Mrs. Bakerella never disappoints. Ever.
I love her, I really do.

She just blogged about her Easy Apple Cake so I decided to try it.

I didn't have, nor do I like dates so I just added extra apples.

The finished product

and finally the little slice of heaven drizzled with a brown sugar, butter sauce.

A little after dinner snuggling...
It's so sweet how much she loves her big brother and sister.

and then she gets up and does this with the crayon box...
Oh Ella.

Hugs for Grandma and Grandpa before they leave...

I'm so grateful to have my parents around and involved.
My kids adore them to pieces and I will always do everything
in my power to make sure that never changes.

What a great way to start the week.

I am trying to make a conscious effort to be a happier and more positive person.
In the face of a crappy economy and tough times for everyone,
it's so easy to let it get you down in the dumps.

When there are days like these - having that positive outlook is so easy.
